Thousands Perform Ao Dai Dance at Nguyen Hue Walking Street – A Highlight of the HCMC Ao Dai Festival
On the morning of March 8, thousands of people dressed in Ao Dai joined a mass folk dance performance and parade at Nguyen Hue Walking Street as part of the 2026 Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival activities.
The 2026 HCMC Ao Dai Festival is organized by the HCMC Department of Tourism in collaboration with the HCMC Women's Union. The event marks the 1986th anniversary of the Hai Ba Trung Uprising and the 116th International Women's Day, honoring the beauty of Vietnamese women and the cultural value of the traditional Ao Dai.
Nearly 3,000 participants performed a synchronized folk dance, creating a vibrant atmosphere with colorful traditional dresses that attracted a large number of residents and tourists who stopped to admire and capture beautiful moments.
The festival activities span from the President Ho Chi Minh Monument Park, Nguyen Hue Walking Street, and the Export Showroom at 92-96 Nguyen Hue (Saigon Ward), to the Metro Line 1 stations and various cultural and tourist destinations across Ho Chi Minh City.
The 2026 theme is inspired by the image of “Golden Silk Threads” (Sợi tơ vàng son) – the quintessential origin of Vietnamese silk and brocade. The soft yet strong silk threads symbolize the flow of heritage over thousands of years, the resilience of traditional craft villages, and the enduring spirit of the nation.
Joining the rhythm of March, supporting the Ao Dai Festival is not only a way to honor cultural heritage but also a profound tribute to women. In the graceful silhouette of the Ao Dai, the image of Vietnamese women appears both gentle and proud, a testament to beauty that lasts through time.
After 12 years of organization, the Ao Dai Festival has gradually become a signature cultural activity, helping to position Ho Chi Minh City as a destination of culture, creativity, and integration.
According to leaders of the HCMC Department of Tourism, expanding the scale of this year's festival aims to strengthen cultural promotion and introduce the image of a friendly, dynamic, and hospitable Ho Chi Minh City.
Furthermore, the event contributes to stimulating tourism demand, attracting investment, and promoting cultural and service activities, especially as the city expands its development space following administrative boundary adjustments.
Ho Chi Minh City has turned this into a typical cultural-tourism event every March, helping the Ao Dai gain deep and wide presence in daily life while affirming the city's position as a dynamic, creative, and identity-rich destination on the international tourism map.
